Statistics Department Undergraduate Funding Opportunities

The Department of Statistics values each and every member. To help promote a diverse statistics community, the Department will award student memberships to the American Statistical Association (ASA) to students from groups that are underrepresented in Statistics and Data Science.

ASA student membership includes many benefits including subscriptions to Amstat News and Significance magazines; networking within the ASA Community; enhanced features of the ASA JobWeb and information about internships, resources, and career opportunities. Application for Student ASA Memberships

(next year’s application will open in 2027)

Notifications will occur in April.  Memberships will be arranged and paid for through the department.

The Department of Statistics is accepting applications for up to a $500 travel award to help a UW–Madison undergraduate student pursuing a statistics major or certificate to give a presentation at a statistics or closely related conference.

Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis.  First deadline is October 23, 2026. Final deadline for summer funding is April 23, 2027. 

Eligibility: 

• UW–Madison undergraduate students declared in the Statistics major or Statistics certificate, 
• Who are giving a talk or presenting a poster at an academic conference. 
• Students are encouraged to seek other funding opportunities to supplement their travel expenses.  

Applications will be evaluated by the Statistics Undergraduate Committee. The recipients will be notified end of each month (first reviewed October 30th, then notified monthly). If you have questions, please contact the statistics advisors at advising@stat.wisc.edu.
