Alejandra joined UW-Madison in 2022 as an Assistant Professor and Nellie McKay Fellow. From 2023 to 2025, she was also a Visiting Professor at UNAM’s Instituto de Matemáticas. She earned her Ph.D. in Statistics from Columbia University under the direction of Professor Philip Protter. During her doctoral studies, she held a Fulbright grant, received the Howard Levene Outstanding Teaching Award, and was a finalist for the 2021 and 2022 Presidential Awards for Outstanding Teaching by a Graduate Student at Columbia.
Her research focuses on applied probability, stochastic processes, and statistical methodology for modeling dependence and risk in financial systems, with applications to credit risk, systemic risk, and microfinance.
Originally from Puebla, Mexico, she studied Actuarial Sciences at Universidad de las Américas Puebla, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and was Valedictorian of her class. In her free time, Alejandra enjoys running and has completed eight marathons so far.
